IPOH: Perak executive councillor Paul Yong is expected to be charged with the rape of his maid at the session court here today.

The DAP Tronoh assemblyman is said to have been served a summons to appear in court. He was alleged to have committed the offence at his home in Meru, some 12km from here.

On July 8, a 23-year-old Indonesian woman lodged a police report claiming that she was raped by Yong. She is currently under police protection in a safe house.

Yong, who has denied the charge, is a state exco member in charge of Housing and Local Government portfolio. He is also the state DAP assistant publicity secretary.

An official with Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, said the office has yet to be briefed by the police or prosecutor on the matter.

Yong and Perak DAP chairperson Datuk Ngeh Koo Nam could not be reached for comment.

Perak Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Anuar Othman said police have yet to receive any instruction on the matter.
