PH not straying from middle ground: Mahathir

PUTRAJAYA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pix) said today that the coalition is not straying from the middle ground.

“That is just the perception of the people outside,“ said the prime minister when asked if PH has strayed after Lim Kit Siang was reported to have met him recently to draft a new narrative for PH.

Speaking to reporters after a Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) supreme council meeting at Perdana Leadership Foundation here, Mahathir said Lim came to see him to talk about racial issues which were being discussed negatively.

“We feel that people were discussing racial issues with anger and that is not healthy,” he said.

Asked on the sentiments of the rakyat for this year’s National Day, Mahathir said the sentiment was different now compared with last year.

“That time (last year) the people enjoyed the removal of the previous government and they did not look at who was making what speech,” he said.

Now, he said the people wanted to see the results they expected and it was not easy to achieve.

The prime minister said many things that PH promised before was made without proper information for example on the money owed by the government, it was not realised it was more than RM1 trillion.

Mahathir said PH government also could not provide RM450 to the bachelors, unlike the previous government.

“We (PH) don’t have the things to give freely in order to get support. We cannot implement this thing because we are not like that,” he added. — Bernama
