PETALING JAYA: Protecting the environment, ensuring human rights are respected and promoting national unity are among the objectives Malaysians must pursue.
To achieve the people’s vision of shared prosperity, Malaysia must also ensure equal opportunities in jobs, education and business as well as a clean government and good governance, said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
In a statement issued in conjunction with the party’s 53rd anniversary today Lim also pledged that Pakatan Harapan (PH) would focus on delivering on its election promises.
He conceded that PH still faced challenges from “irresponsible elements” that were seeking to “divide and disrupt the PH government through the politics of racism and extremism”.
“Exploiting hate and confrontational politics is a weak attempt to hide their inability to competently manage the economy until salaries cannot even be paid, or hide their corruption on a industrial scale until Malaysia is declared a global kleptocracy,“ he added.
He acknowledged that while PH could remind Malaysians that it was the only coalition that could represent the people regardless of demography or geography, it was not enough to see their lives improve.
“That is why we must focus on delivering on our election pledges as contained in our manifesto. That means providing good jobs, improving household income and managing cost of living so that people could enjoy a better life,“ he added.
Lim said the final test of PH’s success would be the answer to the question: “Are you better off now under PH or under Barisan Nasional?”
“If the answer is positive, we would have done our duty to the next generation. Let us focus on providing good jobs so that we can future proof the economy that is in transition to the digital age,“ he added.
