PKR leader clarifies he did not call for ban on any type of school

GEORGE TOWN: Permatang Pauh PKR deputy head Dr Afif Bahardin has clarified that he did not call for a ban on religious or vernacular schools, as reported in thesundaily.my yesterday.

He stated that he only said any discussion to introduce a single stream school system will involve the status of religious schools, besides vernacular schools. “I never said the word ‘ban’. There was no ban involved here,” he told theSun.

In our report, we cited Afif as saying that any move to pave the way for a single-stream school was not sufficient, as “it has to be across the board and that includes religious schools”.

“It is about the hollistic and honest discussion, not calling for a ban,” he pointed out.
