KUALA LUMPUR: Motorists using PLUS Malaysia Berhad highways will enjoy an average discount of 18% next year, according to Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.
He said the Cabinet is considering a number of proposals pertaining to PLUS Malaysia, including suggestions by Khazanah Malaysia Bhd — which owns 51% of PLUS Malaysia — whether to take over or to dispose its shares.
“This 18% in toll discounts will save PLUS highway users up to RM1.13 billion for 2020, and RM43 billion for the remaining concession period which ends in 2038,” he said when tabling the 2020 Budget, here, today.
Lim, however, did not elaborate how or when the discount would be implemented.
“Any proposals must give a positive fiscal impact and should not increase the government debt,” he added.
Lim pointed out that the negotiations would be conducted by the government with all highway concessionaires in its bid to obtain the best possible price for the takeover of all concessions.
“This is with the final objective to abolish toll collection in stages,” he said.
