KENINGAU: Keningau Police Chief DSP Shahrudin Mat Husain has reminded netizens to be more ethical in the spreading of any unverified news, images or issues.

He said sharing unverified material could cause hostility among the people, which was dangerous.

“Please refer to us (Police) or the relevant authorities first ... we have a Facebook page, and there is a direct line to refer to the authenticity of each case,“ he told reporters here today.

Shahrudin said this in reference to the widespread rumours circulating over the discovery of the charred body of a woman at Batu 8 Jalan Sook – Keningau on Thursday, initially claimed to be of a local teenager who was reported missing by her family on Aug 4.

Yesterday, Keningau police confirmed that the body was of Sarah Israkil, 44, a Suluk Filipino who was killed in a fight before having her body burnt.

The police believe she was killed out of jealousy, and are currently on the hunt for a 40-year-old suspect. — Bernama
