KUALA LUMPUR: A total RM5.6 million in traffic summonses was collected on the first day of the online traffic summonses payment campaign with a 50% discount implemented by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Datuk Azisman Alias (pix) said the five-day campaign, starting from yesterday, received an encouraging response because a 50% discount was offered for certain summonses.
He said all summonses qualified for discount except for accident summonses: summonses in trial: summonses issued during Ops Selamat 2019 and 2020; summonses with non-compoundable status; summonses with court status and those which had been issued with warrants of arrest for 2019 and 2020.
‘’Those with outstanding summonses are urged to take advantage of the campaign by paying online from home. After the campaign, they will have to pay their summonses under the normal rates,” he told Bernama when contacted today.
He said summons payment counters at police headquarters nationwide would be closed during the Movement Control Order (MCO) and only payment via online would be available.
On Monday, Azisman said the campaign was to encourage the public to comply with MCO which was implemented in an effort to check Covid-19.
