KUALA LUMPUR: The police have crippled a drug distributing network using the WeChat application as a medium to find clients, after two local men and a Thai woman were detained in two raids in Cheras and Kajang, on Monday.
Cheras district police chief, ACP Mohamed Mokhsein Mohamed Zon said a 31-year-old local man was detained in a car in the first raid at a condominium in Taman Shamelin Perkasa at 10.50am.
Powder suspected to be ecstasy weighing about 3.0 kg was found in the car, he said.
‘’Following the arrest of the suspect, another raid was carried out at a condominium in Kajang at 1.50pm which resulted in the arrests of a local man and a Thai woman, aged 27 and 29 years.
‘’Police found 1,802 pills, believed to be ecstasy, 270.8 kg of liquid ecstasy (MDMA), 3.6 kg of ecstasy powder and 80 sticks of cigarettes believed to contain ganja in the condominium,’’ he told a media conference at the Cheras district police headquarters today.
420 bottles of soft drinks believed to contain drugs, cash amounting to RM4,181, several foreign currencies, two gold bracelets and four gold rings were also seized from the couple.
‘’The bottles containing liquid mixed with drugs are sold at RM200 each to addicts and could be bought via the WeChat application.
‘’The value of drugs seized is estimated at RM788,700 while the values of the other items, including the car used by the first suspect, were about RM26,000, making the value of the total seizures at RM815,000,’’ he added.
Mohamed Mokhsein said the suspects were believed to be members of a drug distribution syndicate active in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Baru and Penang.
‘’The first suspect is being remanded for seven days until Jan 27 while the second and third suspects are being remanded for six days until Sunday.
‘’The case is being investigated under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act for possessing and distributing drugs,’’ he added. - Bernama
