Police detain Ronnie Liu to assist probe into social media posting

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have detained Sungai Pelek assemblyman Ronnie Liu Tian Khiew (pix) to assist their probe into a social media posting that allegedly had seditious elements against Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

Federal Police (Bukit Aman) CID deputy director (Investigations and Legal) DCP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the arrest was made at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters this morning.

“Ronnie Liu was detained at 10.40 am to give a statement and the investigation is under Secction 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 in regard to uploading of status on social media done by him relating to Al-Sultan Abdullah.

“He will be freed after his statement is recorded,“ he told Bernama.

It was reported yesterday, Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Huzir Mohamed as saying that Liu is among four individuals being probed for allegedly insulting the King on social media.

Liu is alleged to have uploaded Facebook status with the words “Now in Bangkok. They Are Saying No to the King”.

So far, two other individuals are still being traced by police to assist investigations. — Bernama
