Police will not tolerate unlawful acts over temple relocation: IGP

IPOH: The police today warned that they will no longer tolerate unlawful acts in ensuring security in the vicinity of a Hindu temple in Selangor where scuffles between two groups over the past two days have resulted in injuries to people and damage to property.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun (pix) said he has instructed Selangor Police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor on the matter following the fracas at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25, Putra Heights, near Subang Jaya.

He said the police stationed Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) and General Operations Force (GOF) personnel in the vicinity of the temple yesterday but the groups committed unlawful acts in areas where there was no police presence.

The police will not close the roads near the temple because this will inconvenience motorists but they will evaluate whether it is necessary to do so, he said at a press conference after presenting Pingat Jasa Pahlawan Negara 2018 awards to 252 police officers and personnel at the police senior officers’ mess here.

At about 2am on Monday, two groups of people resorted to a scuffle at the temple and surrounding areas, apparently over the proposed relocation of the temple, resulting in several people getting injured and 18 cars and two motorcycles being torched. — Bernama
