JEMPOL: Police arrested nine individuals suspected of processing and selling ketum water during raids carried out at Kampung Baru Ayer Hitam and Felda Lui Selatan 2 here, yesterday.

Jempol District Police chief Supt Mohd Khairiel Mohd Arif said in the first raid at about 2pm, a team led by him raided a house in Kampung Baru Ayer Hitam and arrested six men.

“The men aged between 24 and 53 were seen sitting in front of the house in a suspicious manner. All the suspects were shocked by the presence of the police and tried to escape but were apprehended,” he said.

According to Mohd Khairiel, physical inspections on the suspects revealed nothing suspicious, however, about 7.5L of what is believed to be ketum liquid was found in five transparent packets in a refrigerator, while 3.63gm of Syabu-like substance was found in a packet under a mattress in one of the rooms.

He said police then conducted another raid at a house in Felda Lui Selatan 2 at 3.30pm the same day, leading to three more arrests.

Based on checks at the premises, he said the suspects aged between 35 and 38 were believed to be in the process of making and selling ketum water, with large quantities of the liquid found in the kitchen of the house.

He added that all nine suspects were taken to the Jempol Police Headquarters for further investigation, where two of them tested positive for methamphetamine. — Bernama
