Politician’s daughter held for flouting RMCO

KUALA LUMPUR: A daughter of a politician was among 34 people who were held at a pub here for flouting the recovery movement control order (RMCO) on Saturday.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said on Wednesday that police raided the pub in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) at 1.20am and found the business operating without a valid licence.

He said the pub manager aged 37, a Bangladeshi man and three Filipinas aged between 33 and 52 who are believed to be the other staff of the pub were detained.

Mazlan said 29 patrons of the pub comprising 20 men and nine women aged between 21 and 48 were also held for being at the pub beyond its operating hours and in violation of the RMCO.

He said the patrons were slapped with a fine of RM1,000.

Mazlan said the foreigners were remanded for 14 days for investigations under the Immigration Act.

“We learnt that there are postings in the social media that a VIPs child was held for breaching the RMCO but escaped the penalty. We wish to stress that KL police do not practise double standards and will not compromise on any individual including the said child of a VIP who had violated the RMCO. Action in accordance with the law was taken on them,“ he said.
