KUALA LUMPUR: Pos Malaysia Berhad will issue the “State Definitive Series-Wild Orchids” stamps on Dec 4.
The latest stamp series will come with new security features to ensure its authenticity. It will use a special ink and feature the six most sought-after wild orchid species.
The six species featured are the Bulbophyllum Orchid (on the 5 sen stamp), Helmet Orchid (10 sen), Vanilla Orchid (20 sen), Almost-Three Lobbed Phalus (30 sen), Large Leaf Dendrobium (40 sen) and the Jewel Orchid (50 sen)
“Wild orchids captivates practically every wildflower enthusiasts,“ said Pos Malaysia Stamp and Philately head, Diyana Lean Abdullah.
“Its allure comes from the orchid’s exquisiteness and beauty coupled with its vibrant colours and green waxy leaves.
“Therefore, we would like to capture the essence of the wild orchids to entice not only stamp enthusiasts but also to flower enthusiasts.”
The wild orchids stamp series will be produced in two versions of the Miniature Sheets (MS) which are the perforated and imperforated version with 14 designs which features the head of states in Malaysia.
Other philatelic products such as the First Day Cover (FDC) with free brochure are available at 50 sen each, while the folder is priced at RM 8 each .
The Complete folder for the stamp series will be available at RM128.40 each. The image of a wild orchid will be the cancellation mark of this series.
Diyana said avid stamp collectors, enthusiasts and the public should grab their copy as there will be no reproduction once it is sold out.
A total of 20,000 sheets of perforated MS for each 14 designs (280,000 piece in total), 17,000 sheets of imperforated MS for each 14 designs (238,000 pieces in total), 30,000 pieces of FDC’s, and 1,600 pieces of folders respectively were printed in the series.
