KUALA LUMPUR: The government may consider a higher price for the purchase of Kampung Baru land for re-development, said Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad.

However, he said, this will be discussed in detail with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the outcome known in a month’s time.

“Generally, all (owners and benefactors) have agreed (with the re-development)...what is the stumbling block is the assessment price (of RM850 per square foot) by the JPPH (Valuation and Property Services Department), so how much more can we offer.

“The approach by government is always tied to the valuation been done by the JPPH ... they can give more or less, but we have to wait and see,“ he said in a press conference after a townhall session with more than 3,000 Kampung Baru land owners and benefactors here today.

The government today offered to buy land in Kampung Baru here from the owners and benefactors at a rate of RM850 per square foot.

Khalid said the offer was the highest rate of assessment by the JPPH, taking into consideration the consideration to retain Malay ownership. — Bernama
