KUALA LUMPUR: Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah last night attended a dinner to celebrate the 57th Women’s Day.

She was accompanied by her daughters Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Afzan Aminah Hafizatullah and Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Jihan Azizah ‘Athiyatullah.

Also present were Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Hannah Yeoh, Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin and National Council of Women’s Organisations (NCWO) president Prof Tan Sri Dr Sharifah Hapsah Syed Hasan Shahabudin.

In her speech, Tunku Azizah expressed her appreciation to women in non-governmental organisations (NGO) for their contributions to the country.

She cited in particular, the Malaysian Girl Guides Association.

“You have taught me so much for what I am today. We learned along the way and being in the Girl Guides have brought me all over the world. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart,“ she said.

At the function attended by about 600 NCWO members, the Women’s Day campaign for this year themed, ‘Women are the Foundation of Family and National Harmony’ was also launched.

Meanwhile, veteran activist Datuk Ramani Gurusamy received the Tun Fatimah Award from NCWO, which was presented by the queen.

NCWO is an NGO representing more than 200 women’s associations nationwide. — Bernama
