GENTING HIGHLANDS: Resorts World Genting, together with its collaborative partner, Schneider Electric Malaysia today launched their first electric vehicle (EV) charging station located at Awana SkyCentral Transportation Hub.

With nine units of charging stations located side by side at the B1 level of the hub’s carpark, electric cars and hybrids can now utilise Schneider Electric’s energy efficient charging solutions to recharge their cars.

Resorts World Genting Vice President of Hotel Operations Ganaesan Subramaniam said with 5,000 electric cars in Malaysia and counting, Resorts World Genting wants to be ready to cater to new vehicles on the road.

“We have an average of six million vehicles coming up to the resort, so we hope drivers of electric vehicles and hybrids can utilise these EV charging stations,“ he said at the launch event today.

He also said Genting will continue to work with Schneider Electric Malaysia to install 20 units of charging stations at the hilltop as well as at SkyAvenue in the future.

Meanwhile, Schneider Electric Malaysia country president Astri Ramayanti Dharmawan said these charging stations are a significant commitment by the company to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and an effort to combat climate change.

“Sustainability is at the core of our strategy, and as the demand for electric vehicles keeps rising, we will also be contributing to this new technology and generate more energy management products,“ she said at the launch event today.

The company’s EVlink Smart Wallbox charging solution comes with built-in energy management function and is compatible with all electric vehicles on the road today.

It can also charge up to 10 times faster than a domestic socket outlet, depending on the vehicle used and charging power capacity of the solution.

Currently, drivers can use the charging stations at the Awana SkyCentral Transportation Hub for free, but are required to pay the necessary parking fees required to enter into the carpark.
