KUALA LUMPUR: The Selayang Magistrate’s Court here today extended for another day the remand order against a director of a chemical supply company for investigation into the odour pollution in Sungai Selangor.

Magistrate Nur Hafizah Rajuni issued the order, for another day until tomorrow, against the 58-year-old man following an application by the police.

The man was previously remanded for seven days from last Friday (Nov 13) for investigation into the odour pollution at the raw water source in Sungai Selangor which led to the closure of the Sungai Selangor Phase 1, 2 and 3 and the Rantau Panjang water treatment plants.

He is being held for investigations under Section 430 of the Penal Code for committing mischief by causing a diminution in the supply of water.

Prior to this, four individuals, including two directors of a roadworks construction company, were remanded in connection with the same incident.

It was reported that four major water treatment plants (LRAs) in Selangor were forced to shut down due to the pollution incident.

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) said as a result, 1,139,008 accounts in 1,279 areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat were affected by water supply disruption last Nov 10. -Bernama
