RMAF in critical need of a full spectrum of maritime patrol aircraft

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) needs a full spectrum of Maritime Patrol Aircraft critically in line with regional geostrategic development and the national economic interests, the Dewan Negara was told today.

“The RMAF also outlined the need for the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to be paired with the operation of maritime patrol aircraft for monitoring and overseeing the responsibility of the nation’s maritime area in a more efficient and effective manner,” said Deputy Defence Minister Liew Chin Tong (pix).

At present, the monitoring operations in the area of the South China Sea were carried out by the RMAF’s aircraft of Beechcraft B200T, he said.

He was replying to Senator Datuk Razali Idris who wanted to know if the ministry intends to use RMAF’s reconnaissance aircraft to conduct effective surveillance of the nation’s waters over the South China Sea. — Bernama
