ALOR STAR: Several main roads in Kedah’s capital will be closed tomorrow and Tuesday to give way to a floats parade held in conjunction with the coronation ceremony of the 29th Sultan of Kedah.

Kota Star police chief ACP Mohd Rozi Jidin said the road closure which begins at 6pm involves the main route of the parade from the Darulaman Expressway traffic light junction to Bandar Dataran, in front of Zahir Mosque.

He said the traffic light junction at the Alor Star Old Hospital, the Bakar Bata junction, the Kanchut / Bina Darulaman Sdn Bhd junction, the Tambang Badak junction, the Old Istana junction, the Old Courthouse junction and Pekan Melayu junction would also be closed.

“For the rehearsal tomorrow on the actual parade on Tuesday, all roads connecting with the main route will also be diverted, namely traffic from Persiaran Sultan Abdul Hamid will be diverted to the Bunga Tanjung traffic light heading towards the Sultan Abdul Halim Expressway and at the Pekan Melayu traffic light heading towards Jalan Tunku Ibrahim (city centre).

“There will also be a diversion from the north, namely Anak Bukit, where vehicles will be directed to make a turn at the Alor Star Old Hospital intersection heading to Jalan Suka Menanti via the Seberang Pumpong bridge or to Shahab Perdana.

“Vehicles from Shahab Perdana will move on straight at the (Alor Star) Old Hospital traffic light junction towards the north toll, as well, vehicles from Anak Bukit can turn left towards the toll or to the right towards Shahab Perdana. Vehicles from Jalan Langgar, the Sultanah Bahiyah Highway and the North toll plaza will be diverted to the Alor Semadom traffic light towards Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Stadium, and downtown,“ he said in a statement here today.

Mohd Rozi said all types of buses were also advised to exit or enter at the Alor (South) Toll Plaza to Shahab Perdana, while at the Stadium roundabout, vehicles will not be allowed to head towards the Bakar Bata traffic light, and vehicles at the Telok Wanjah roundabout will not be allowed to head to the Tambang Badak traffic light.

In addition, all vehicles from Jalan Langgar going through Jalan Telok Wanjah will not be allowed to head to the Tambang Badak traffic light, and instead will be diverted to the road under the Telok Wanjah / Lorong Merpati bridge.

“Traffic from Jalan Tengah / Meranti, Jalan Tambang Badak will be diverted to the left to Jalan Gangsa / Aeon Big, while vehicles from Jalan Gangsa will not be allowed to turn in to Jalan Tambang Badak, and vehicles from Jalan Putra heading to the Old Courthouse junction will be diverted to Jalan Tengah / Jalan Pintu 10,“he said.

He added that all entrances and exits to the main route of the parade will be controlled by traffic personnel throughout the period.

“The road will be reopened to all traffic after the event is over and road users are advised to plan their journey and use alternative routes to avoid possible congestion,“ he said. — Bernama
