Sarawak SFO reorganised to focus on raising farmers’ living standard

KUCHING: The Sarawak State Farmers’ Organisation (SFO) has been re-organised as a step towards raising the living standard of the farming community in the state, Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas (pix) said today.

He said Sarawak Assistant Minister for Agriculture Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail has been entrusted to be in charge of the SFO so that it could focus more on serving the needs of farmers in Sarawak.

“We want to help each farming family to have a monthly income of RM4,000 from their efforts (and only) then, they can have a better standard of living,” he said in a statement.

Uggah, who is also the State’s Agriculture Modernisation, Native Land and Regional Development Minister, said it was also timely now for the farmers, breeders and fishermen in Sarawak to embrace science and modern technology in their respective undertakings.

“These would allow them to produce more superior goods in order to compete with other producers in Asia,” he said, adding that they should also possess discipline, passion and commitment in order to succeed. — Bernama
