SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government will order schools in the state to be closed if the Air Pollutant Index (API) reaches 200.

Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari said the haze situation would be monitored closely before any directives are issued.

He said haze-related matters are handled by the Selangor State Disaster Management Unit and the state government is updated on the issue.

“There are no orders for shutdown at the moment as the readings have not reached 200. However, members of the public are advised to reduce outdoor activities for the time being,“ he told reporters after the Budget 2020 Economic Empowerment meeting at Shah Alam today.

Amirudin also said the state government is cooperating with the authorities to take actions against those who carry out open burning.

“This is an ongoing problem. Previously it happened in Sepang and we managed to control. This time, we have to look at Johan Setia, Klang, as it involves peat where burning occurs so fast that it is difficult to control,“ he said.
