KUALA LUMPUR: Foreigners using three-wheeled motorcycles loaded with scrap items were among 181 held in a Road Transport Department operation to nab foreign illegal drivers in Selangor in the last two weeks.

Selangor RTD director Nazli Md Taib said 96 of them were Myanmarese, who were caught committing several offences, including riding without a valid license and illegal modification of their vehicles.

He said many of them were found to have rented the three-wheeled motorcycles from locals for between RM5,000 and RM6,000 a month, using them to scour scrap items, adding that the owners of these vehicles will have action taken against them.

Others nabbed comprised 25 Indian nationals, Pakistan (20), Indonesia (17), Bangladesh (15), Cambodia and Nepal three each and two Saudi Arabia nationals.

The operation also saw 290 vehicles seized, including 92 motorcycles, three-wheeled motorcycles (79), cars (16), garbage trucks (44), taxis (29), factory buses (24), and six below five-tonne lorries.

Nazli said those held were in their 20s to 50s, and had committed various offences, including driving or riding without valid licenses or with an expired road tax, overloading and illegal modification of vehicles. — Bernama
