TAWAU: Felda Wilayah Sahabat settlers have been advised not to speculate following the arrest of several suspects in Felda Umas, believed to have been involved in the killing of a pygmy elephant whose carcass was found in Sungai Udin area, Dumpas here last Thursday.

Its chief, General Linjal said following the arrests all sorts of rumours have spread among the villagers.

“Let the police conduct their investigations, I hope the settlers will remain calm and not manipulate the news.

“(Because) at times the story will vary from one person to another and eventually inaccurate information is being spread which I fear, may become an issue,“ he said when contacted here today.

General Linjal also reminded the settlers not to take matters into their own hands as the move would have grave repercussions.

Yesterday police arrested six men, five locals and an illegal immigrant, believed to have used a homemade weapon called bakakuk in the brutal killing of an elephant in Sungai Udin, Dumpas.
