SIBU, Jan 13: Residents in Sibu have been reminded not to rush for COVID-19 test at the Sibu Indoor Stadium screening centre and drive-through centre at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak building here following a major congestion today.

The two centres, located at Jalan Tun Tuanku Bujang, Sungai Merah became the focus of the people when long queues were formed with the opening of the drive-through screening centre which began operation today.

The centre which opened from 2 pm to 5 pm recorded 368 samples involving 172 vehicles.

Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee (JPBBS) in a statement said for the safety of the people, residents should not panic or rush to have their tests.

“If you are not a close contact of a COVID-19 patient, the possibility of getting infected is very low and there is not need to take the test if one is not experiencing or displaying any symptoms.

“Please give priority to close contacts of COVID-19,” the statement said.

According to the statement both centres will be operating every day and would not be closing soon.- Bernama
