JOHOR BARU: A Singaporean man with 116 outstanding traffic summonses issued against him since 2000 finally paid the fine amounting to RM28,000 after he was detained in an operation at Muzium Tokoh here yesterday.
The man, in his 60s, was among those detained in the three-day operation dubbed ‘’Op Saman Tertunggak Warganegara Asing’’ which began at 6am on Friday.
The 10th series of the operation which involved 116 personnel was conducted at the Gelang Patah Rest and Service area, Iskandar Puteri near here and at Muzium Tokoh, Jalan Lingkaran Dalam.
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department deputy director Datuk Mohd Nadzri Hussain said in the operation, a total of 3,174 outstanding summonses were settled by 2,687 Singaporeans and 487 Malaysians.
“As of this morning, we managed to collect about RM611,000 in traffic fines and summonses at both locations.
“A total of 247,278 outstanding summonses were recorded since 2000 until 2019,” he told reporters after observing the operation here today adding that the collection was expected to reach RM750,000 by midnight.
Mohd Nadzri said traffic offenders could check the status of traffic summonses and make payments at two kiosks at the Traffic Division office of the Johor Bahru Selatan district police headquarters.
He said for Singaporeans, payments could also be made at 900 AXS machines available in the republic.
“Payments can also be made at the COPS traffic counter at all district police headquarters and summons checking can also be done through MyEg portal at www.myeg.com.my and rilek.com.my,” he said.
Mohd Nazri said once the Vehicle Entry Permit came into force, traffic offenders from Singapore must first settle all their summonses before being allowed to return to the republic. — Bernama
