GEORGE TOWN: Six anglers who were reported missing after they failed to return home from a fishing trip yesterday morning have been found safe about 4.30pm today.

Seberang Prai South district police chief Supt Shafee Abdul Samad said the six anglers, aged 30 to 49, were found safe on board of their fibreglass boat about 20 nautical miles southwest of Kendi Island by a Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) patrol boat.

“The boat skipper Mohd Khairul Anuar Mohd Salleh, 30, informed the rescue team that his boat experienced faulty engine and drifted to where they were found,“ he said when contacted.

Shafee also said that all six anglers were taken to the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) jetty at Batu Maung near here.

The six anglers were reportedly went out to the sea for a fishing trip from the Tanjung Berembang Jetty, Nibong Tebal at 8am yesterday.

A police report was lodged this morning over their disappearance before the MMEA launched the search and rescue operations involving the Marine Police Force and the Malaysia Civil Defence Force. — Bernama
