ALOR SETAR: A skeleton, believed to be that of a man who had fallen into Sungai Kuala Pai near Kuala Nerang on June 27, was found today.
Padang Terap police chief DSP Mulkiaman Manzar said the skeletal remains said to be of Muhamad Shahril Hamid, 30, were found by members of the public in the river, 26 days after he was reported missing.
“Police were informed of the discovery at 3.35pm. The remains were found about 100 metres where the victim was reported to have slipped on June 27.
“The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) was called to assist in the removal of the skeletal remains,“ he said in a statement here today.
He said the remains were taken to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Alor Setar and the case was classified as sudden death.
On June 27, the media reported that a search and rescue operation had been mounted after a man was feared drowned when he was believed to have fallen into Sungai Kuala Pai, near Kuala Nerang. — Bernama
