JOHOR BARU: The Johor State Health Department has inspected 319 food premises and issued 22 warning notices on premises which failed to comply with the smoking ban, which came into effect today.
State Health,Environment and Agriculture Committee chairman Dr Sahruddin Jamal said that as of 3pm today, besides checking and issuing warning notices at eateries, a total of 957 pamphlets were also distributed regarding non-smoking areas and providing advice to individuals.
“It is hoped that people would reject the culture of smoking in public and more smokers would quit the habit,“ he said in a statement here today.
Sahruddin said services to help smokers quit was provided at health clinics all over Johor and relevant information was available at http://jomquit.moh.gov.my.
He said the Johor State Health Department had also started a campaign to ban smoking in eateries since last month through the advocacy of the state government, local authorities, district offices, hawkers’ association and other traders as well as raising public awareness through social media and radio.
“Hence, we urge all parties to work together to make sure that these rules are complied with to ensure we have a smoke-free Johor,“ he said. — Bernama
