KUALA LUMPUR: A Special Parliamentary Committee for Defence and Internal Affairs will be set up to investigate Ops Yaman 2, Deputy Defence Minister Liew Chin Tong said.

According to Liew, the investigation will focus on whether the standard operating procedures (SOP) and asset-backed operations (SOP) to Saudi Arabia in Ops Yaman 2, were in compliance with the procedures

He said the inquiry to be carried out by the committee would be its first task and the ministry would give its full cooperation.

“We hope this committee can investigate so that the people will have faith, they can then rectify the system so that it does not repeat what happened in Ops Yaman.

“We talked about the Ops Yaman issue as it was not right and I do not want to talk further on the issue, but would like to take the opportunity to read two letters to outline what happened and provide sufficient information before this special committee investigates the matter,“ he said at the winding-up session of 2019 Budget for his ministry in Dewan Rakyat today. — Bernama
