Spirit of patriotism and love for country should always be inculcated: Former commando

SEREMBAN: The spirit of patriotism and love for the nation should not only be expressed by flying the Jalur Gemilang, but must be instilled in the soul so that it will continue to grow all the time.

Former VAT 60 commando, Halim Ishak said that in addition to being proud of one’s self-identity, the feeling of gratitude and respect for each other must be instilled in school so that the community could live in peace and harmony.

“I have great hopes that the teachers and students not only express their spirit of independence by flying the Jalur Gemilang but must also appreciate and respect the sacrifice made by members of the security forces so that we can achieve independence,” he said in a statement to Bernama, here.

Halim, who is also chairman of the Malaysian Community Care Foundation (MCCF) said he had been invited today to officiate the 62nd National Month Celebration at the School Level at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Enstek in Nilai and that the opportunity be utilised to instil the spirit of patriotism among students so that they would always love the nation and endeavour to preserve the independence gained.

“At the event, I appealed to the students to uphold the principles of Rukun Negara, to appreciate the peace and sacrifices of the members of the security forces, and to free their mind from being influenced by information available in the social media.

“In addition, I also called on them to instill the national identity and foster loyalty among the students from the other races too,” he added. - Bernama
