Step down, Dr M tells Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pix) told the Dewan Rakyat today that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should resign over the fiasco of the Emergency Ordinances.

Mahathir (Pejuang-Langkawi) put the blame squarely on Muhyiddin.

He said it is incumbent upon him to resign as the prime minister of the country.

“He must know that he has no power to revoke the ordinances on his own,” he said.

He stressed that the King’s frustration over the recent revocation of the Emergency Ordinances (EO) showed that Muhyiddin had every intention to lie to Parliament.

“But still the announcement was made, as if he had the power when such powers are solely in the hands of the King during the Emergency,” he added.

“Although it was not Muhyiddin who announced the revocation on July 26, but de-facto Law Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan who did, Muhyiddin cannot absolve himself of the responsibility,” the Langkawi MP said.

Mahathir said Muhyiddin made no attempt to correct Takiyuddin when the latter made the announcement, or stop Takiyuddin despite being seated right in front of him.

He added that neither did Muhyiddin make any clarification on the following days.

“Muhyiddin is therefore responsible for this shameful act as are the rest of the cabinet members,” he said.
