KUALA LUMPUR: The weatherman has warned of strong north-easterly winds and rough seas in the waters off Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, eastern Johor, Sarawak and Sabah up to Tuesday.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department said today that the winds could reach speeds of 40kmh to 50kmh and the waves could rise as high as 3.5m.

It said in a statement that a similar situation was anticipated in the waters of Tioman, southern Condore, Bunguran, southern Reef North, Layang-Layang, Reef South, Labuan and Palawan.

“This condition is dangerous for small boats, recreation and sea sports,“ it added.

The department also said that strong north-easterly winds of 50kmh to 60kmh and waves as high as 4.5m were expected to occur in the waters of Samui, northern Condore and northern Reef North up to Tuesday.

This condition was dangerous for all shipping and coastal activities, including fishing and ferry services, it added. — Bernama
