IPOH: The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah and the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim graced the “Loyalty to the Ruler” Royal Oratory Competition finals at SJKC Sam Chai here last night.

Also present were the Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa, and Raja Puan Besar Perak, Raja Nazhatul Shima Sultan Idris Shah, as well as Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and his wife, Datin Seri Dr Nomee Ashikin Mohamed Radzi.

The programme, organised by the Perak Sultan’s Office, State Secretary’s Office and State Education Department, also comprised essay writing in Bahasa Malaysia (BM) and English, poem writing as well as caricature and poster drawing competitions.

The Royal Oratory Competition which is held in both English and Bahasa Malaysia (BM), is open to all primary and secondary school students in the state to form a comprehensive understanding of the role of royal institutions in the country.

The competition has been held in every zone since April, and only six of the best orators in BM and English under the upper secondary school category competed in the final stage.

Puteri Nur Irwani Husna Amin from SMK Batu 4, Gerik emerged as the winner in the BM category, while T. Daksheshkaran of SMK Methodist (ACS) Ipoh bagged the first place in the English category.

Each winner walked away with RM750 in cash, a trophy and certificate of appreciation presented by Sultan Nazrin. — Bernama
