Temple issue between developer, temple management: Waytha Moorthy

KUALA LUMPUR: The USJ 25 Sri Maha Mariamman Temple issue is between the developer of the land where the temple is located and the temple management, and it should not be exploited and turned into a racial conflict, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P. Waytha Moorthy (pix).

In this regard, he urged the Malaysian Indian community to be calm and rational in handling the matter as some unscrupulous people were taking advantage of the situation to further complicate the matter by inciting social unrest.

In condemning the violence that occurred in the vicinity of the temple, he said: “The government will not tolerate this behaviour and I urge the police to take immediate action to curb violence and mob rule undertaken by several groups in the name of safeguarding the temple.”

In a statement today, he also said the attack by unknown people on the One City Mall was uncalled for, unwarranted and could be termed as a provocative act with the aim of disrupting peace and stability enjoyed by Malaysians at large.

Police have so far detained 21 people in connection with the commotion at the temple, in Putra Heights near Subang Jaya, that began early Monday morning, followed by another episode in the wee hours of today. — Bernama
