Tense standoff between PKR members amidst speculation of Zuraida’s sacking

PETALING JAYA: The PKR central leadership monthly meeting was supposed to have gone on according to routine, however, this was not the case as PKR supporters from different sides converged and had a tense stand off as the meeting goes on in the party headquarters.

Amidst speculation that PKR vice president Zuraida Kamaruddin (pix) could be facing the sack when the meeting convenes, some 50 of her supporters decide to let their voices be heard by gathering and voicing their support.

They were there because Zuraida has gotten the second highest vote during the party elections, and urged the party leadership to retain her in her elected position.

Meanwhile, detractors had claimed Zuraida insulted the party when she fired a salvo against party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

This was when she and several PKR leaders affiliated to party deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali gathered with their supporters at Renaissance Hotel after a public fallout with Anwar at the annual PKR congress in Malacca last month.

Since then, several quarters had called for Zuraida to be sacked as she had insulted the party, on top of the fact that she has been absent from party meetings for the past year.

Zuraida is absent from the central leadership meeting today as she is in Sabah with several Pakatan Harapan leaders observing the Kimanis by-election and to attend events in her capacity as Housing and Local Government Minister there.
