KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu government is to identify new areas for industries that can draw investors from within the country and abroad, Mentri Besar Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said yesterday.

He said the priority for development will be given to areas close to the communication networks such as roads and logistics services.

In this context, the state government will maintain good relations with investment agencies such as the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA); East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) and NGOs closely linked to the industrial sectors such as the Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Terengganu Indian Muslim Chamber of Commerce.

“This was also discussed at the first ECERDC meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Oct 31,” he said when winding up debate on the 2018 Terengganu budget at the state legislative assembly sitting here.

Ahmad Samsuri, who is the assemblyman for Ru Rendang, expressed his appreciation to the federal government for continuing the upgrading of a bridge in Dungun and construction of the Simpang Pulai-Lojing-Gua Musang-Kuala Berang road for which the open tender will be called next year.
