Three friends killed in head on collision

KUANTAN: Three friends were killed while another was injured when the car they were travelling in collided with a lorry carrying oil palm at Kilometre 19 of Jalan Lipis-Merapoh in Padang Tengku, Lipis, about 156km from here.

Lipis district police chief Supt Azli Mohd Noor in a statement here yesterday said the incident occurred at 5.45pm, when the lorry driver who was heading towards Kelantan from Kuala Lumpur lost control of his vehicle and veered into the opposite lane.

The three deceased were the car driver Faizul Idzafi Azmi, 34, and two back seat passengers, namely Mohamed Rozuan Mohamed Yusoff, 32, and his sister, Roziah, 22, all of whom were from Jeli, Kelantan.

Another victim, Mohd Zulhelmi Mustafa, 25, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Kuala Lipis Hospital.

Azli said the 29-year-old lorry driver and his conductor, 18, who were both from Kuala Krai, Kelantan, escaped unhurt.

The bodies were sent to the Kuala Lipis Hospital for post-mortem and the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - Bernama
