KOTA KINABALU: Three quarantine centres in the city are being utilised by the state government to house People Under Surveillance (PUS) in the light of the Covid-19 outbreak.
State Secretary Datuk Safar Untong, in a statement today, said that the centres were the Ministry of Health (MOH) Training Institute of Malaysia, Sepanggar Fire and Rescue Academy and the Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic.
Safar, who is also Sabah Covid-19 Command Centre chairman, said the centres had been gazetted under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).
He said the 38-dormitory Sepanggar Fire and Rescue Academy and the Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic (13 dormitories) had been filled to capacity by PUS, while the MOH Training Institute of Malaysia, which had two blocks with 91 rooms, could still accept more.
Safar, said the three centres provided the PUS with daily health checks, medical treatments for acute or chronic health problems such as hypertension and diabetes and psycho-social support services.
However, he did not furnish the breakdown figures of PUS who had been admitted to the three centres in the statement.
In the meantime, Safar said all the 40 rooms available at the Monaco Boutique Hotel, Sadong Jaya, which had been gazetted as a quarantine centre, were currently housing PUS.
He said among the services provided at the hotel were health checks, psycho-social support services, regular medical treatments while food is provided by the hotel.
“Two other hotels, Ming Garden Hotel & Residences and Pan Borneo Hotel, Putatan, respectively, are ready to begin operation as quarantine centres,“ he said.
The opening of other quarantine centres would be determined by the MOH from time to time, Safar added. - Bernama
