KUALA LUMPUR: Two men were arrested on suspicion of possessing 183 boxes of smuggled cigarettes worth RM1.4 million under Op Kontraban in Kepong here yesterday.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order deputy director (operations) Datuk Azri Ahmad said the two men, aged 32 and 34, were arrested based on a public tipoff.

He added that police also seized a car, a lorry and RM60,000 in cash. The total seizure is estimated to be worth over RM1.6 million.

“Checks revealed that one of the men had criminal records,” he said in a statement today.

Azri added that both men have been remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 135(1)(e) of the Customs Act 1967. — Bernama
