JOHOR BARU: Two male police personnel were injured when the patrol car they were travelling in skidded and caught fire while pursuing a car in Jalan Persiaran Nusa Damai here early this morning.

Seri Alam police chief Supt Ismail Dollah said in the incident at about 3.30am, the two lance corporals were on a crime prevention round in Jalan Nusa Damai Utama when they spotted a suspicious looking vehicle.

He said both policemen approached the car by sounding the siren and switching on the beacon light while ordering the vehicle to stop.

Nonetheless the car continued to speed off and forced the policemen to pursue.

“While making a u-turn, the patrol car driver could not control the vehicle after hitting a speed hump and skidded to the roadside and overturned.

“As a result of the accident, the police’s Proton Wira caught fire but the two personnel managed to save themselves,” he said in a statement here today.

Ismail said both policemen received outpatient treatment at Sultan Ismail Hospital here.

He added police were still looking for the suspects in the incident. — Bernama
