SEPANG: An unemployed man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with two counts of drug trafficking.

However, no plea was recorded from Wong Yaw Heng, who is from Sandakan, Sabah, and is celebrating his 24th birthday this Saturday, after the charges were read out before Magistrate Ayuni Izzaty Sulaiman.

On the first count, he was charged with trafficking in 1.04kg of ketamine at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) at about 10.15am last Sept 10.

Wong is also charged with trafficking in 4.2kg of methamphetamine at about noon at the same place and date.

Both the charges were framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which is punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same law, which provides the death sentence, or life imprisonment with not less than 15 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

Wong nodded after the charges were read out to him in Malay by a court interpreter.

The court set Nov 10 for mention pending the chemist report.

Deputy public prosecutor Nasharina Nazlan prosecuted, while Wong was represented by lawyer Zaflee Pakwanteh. — Bernama
