UPSI to implement online teaching in line ministry’s instruction

KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) will be implementing online learning and teaching (PdP) in line with Higher Education Ministry (KPT)’s directive.

UPSI vice-chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Mohammad Shatar Sabran in a statement said UPSI has been accredited by MQA for the implementation of Open and Distance Learning (ODL), thus showing UPSI’s infrastructure for online learning is reliable.

“Therefore, in the current situation, support will be provided in enhancing lecturer’s delivery in the form of infographics and a comprehensive implementation guidelines.

“We at UPSI adhere to the directive not to hold face-to face lectures, instead utilise ODL as well as the lecturers’ use of creativity to interact with students even when they’re far apart,“ he said.

Mohammad Shatar said the infrastructure developed by UPSI took into account the development of relevant PdP methods which complied with the KPT’s guidelines while constantly improving it from time to time.

In heeding Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad’s recommendation, he added that MyGuru, a system developed by UPSI, was also tailored according to student’s location and internet accessibility to ensure students could access online learning and downloaded lecturers’ video recordings.

According to him, all lecturers have been given related training, such as the Massive Open Online Learning (MOOC), Open Educational Resources (OER) and Flipped Classroom since 2018 to equip lecturers to conduct PdP sessions online, in line with shift 9 of the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2015-2025 (Higher Education). - Bernama
