KUALA LUMPUR: A 53-year-old upskirt voyeur who attempted to flee from the police collapsed and died during a foot chase in Bangsar late on Monday.

The suspect, who is believed to have died of a cardiac arrest, was seen at a restaurant on Jalan Telawi 4 taking an upskirt video of a 24-year-old woman with his cellphone at about 10.40pm.

A 35-year-old man who saw the act rushed over to the Bangsar police station nearby and reported the matter to police personnel on duty.

Brickfields deputy police chief Supt Arifai Tarawe said yesterday that police personnel promptly went to the restaurant and confronted the suspect.

He said when the police ordered the man to follow them to the police station for checks, the suspect bolted into the backlane of the restaurant in an attempt to escape.

Arifai said police gave chase and caught up with the man.

However, he said the suspect put up a violent struggle when police tried to apprehend him.

Arifai said during the struggle, the suspect collapsed and lost consciousness.

Police called an ambulance from the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) and minutes later paramedics who examined the man pronounced him dead.

Arifai said the man’s body was sent to the UMMC mortuary and the case has been classified as sudden death pending the outcome of a post mortem.
