USM produces Covid-19 guidelines, action plan

GEORGE TOWN: Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has issued a document on the guidelines and action plan for Covid-19 pandemic, thus making it, the first public university in the country to present a comprehensive framework for the outbreak.

In a statement yesterday, the university said the document titled “Response and Readiness Plan For Covid-19 Pandemic and Other Infectious Diseases Outbreaks” outlined general guidelines on readiness, response and communications to tackle the infection.

It also provides recommendations for other infectious disease related to public health emergency issues in the context of the university.

“The comprehensive framework is aimed to minimising the impact of Covid-19 on the social and health well-being of the students, and staff, by emphasising on the university’s public health aspects and the community as a whole,” it said.

The idea was mooted by USM vice-chancellor Prof Dr Faisal Rafiq Mahamd Adikan along with the university’s top management and it was realised through a team of specialists coordinated by the Institute For Research in Molecular Medicine.

As it is the first version, the document would be improved to further enhance its content, it said. - Bernama
