GEORGE TOWN: The Social Welfare Department (JKM) is looking for the next of kin of an eight-year-old Indonesian girl who has been abandoned by her mother here.
North East District social welfare officer Noor Azura Ahmad said the girl’s mother, known as Eeng with passport number AK968902, had left her with a guardian soon after she was born.
“The girl was born at the Penang Hospital on July 29, 2011; it is learnt that the mother disappeared after handing her over to the guardian,” she said in a statement here today.
Based on information, the girl’s mother is an Indonesian Muslim but her last address was not known.
