IPOH: A woman died after witnessing a group of thugs vandalise her son’s car, while her home of 30 years and four vehicles belonging to family members were destroyed shortly after, in a fire believed to have been caused by the same men at about 8pm on Sunday night.

M. Abiramy, 44, fainted when she saw the men damaging a Honda Accord belonging to one of her sons, and was pronounced dead on arrival at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun Ipoh some 30 minutes later, her eldest child N.Nineswari, 29, told Bernama yesterday.

During the fire, no one was inside the one-storey wooden house where the family of eight including six children, had lived.

A neighbour who declined to be named told Bernama that he saw four men who had arrived at the house on two motorcycles at about 7pm, vandalising a car parked by the home.

They returned about one hour later to cause further damage before setting fire to the home, he said, explaining, “I was too scared to do anything ... I could only watch”.

Meanwhile, Ipoh district acting police chief Supt Mohamad Nordin Abdullah said investigations showed that prior to the incident, Abiramy’s son, N. Thana Seelan, 23, had an argument with a man at a temple along Jalan Spooner here, at about 5pm.

The argument was allegedly over Thana Seelan having concealed several cows belonging to the man.

Investigations in connection with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, pursuant to Section 304 of the Penal Code are underway, while Buntong assemblyman A. Sivasubramaniam told reporters that the family would be supported in undertaking funeral arrangements. — Bernama
