Woman injured in robbery

BALIK PULAU: A pupil management assistant in a primary school here was injured when the motorcycle she was riding skidded when two men attempted to rob her in an incident at Jalan Air Putih, here yesterday.

Barat Daya District Police Chief Supt A. A Anbalagan said in the incident at 5pm, the victim, 53, was believed to be returning home on her motorcycle when two men riding a motorcycle approached her.

“According to the victim, the two men approached her from behind on their motorcycle and tried to snatch her bag which was in the motorcycle basket, but failed. However, the incident caused her motorcycle to be unbalanced, causing her to fall.

“When the two men saw she had fallen, they sped off on their motorcycle,“ he told Bernama today.

He said passers-by who saw the victim fall contacted an ambulance which sent the woman to the Balik Pulau Hospital for treatment.

It is understood that the victim who lived in Permatang Pasir here suffered injuries including on her cheekbone and nose, as well as ribs.

Anbalagan said police were tracking down the two men involved in the incident and checking close circuit video recordings in the area.

He urged members of the public with information on the incident to contact the police to help in the investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code. — Bernama
