SHAH ALAM: World #QuranHour is expected to gain 100 million viewership on television and digital platforms this year, said Warisan Ummah Ikhlas Foundation (WUIF) founder Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub.

World #QuranHour is a movement to build the Quranic value system, from Malaysia to the rest of the world.

Hussamuddin, who is also Karangkraf Media Group chairman said the target could be achieved through the support of its media partners promoting the event on their respective platforms to reach more people in Malaysia as well as overseas.

The sixth instalment of World #QuranHour is supported by various media houses namely Bernama, Astro, TV AlHijrah, RTM, Media Prima Group, Sinar Harian, NSTP, Utusan Malaysia, The Star, Karangkraf Media Group, Nu Ideaktiv, IKIMfm and Denaihati Network.

“World #QuranHour garnered 21 million views in 10 countries in 2015, 87 million views in 70 locations in 50 countries (2016), 357 million views in 2,000 locations in 15 countries (2017), 646 million views in 76 locations in 50 countries and 1.46 billion views in 300 locations in 76 countries (2019), before Covid-19 hit of which in 2020 it recorded 10 million views,” he said at a media conference with the media partners here today.

He said World #QuranHour would be held on the 24th day of Ramadan (May 6) at Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque in Putrajaya with this year’s theme of ‘MengQurankan Bangsa, Mengikhlaskan Ummah’ (Quranising the Nation, Purifying the Ummah).

It would be held in closed session as precautionary measure to curb the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak, he added.

Meanwhile, WUIF chief executive officer, Marhaini Yusoff said Surah Al-Mulk (Sovereignty) is this year’s verses of choice that could be used as a guide to creating universal harmony.

She said the appreciation of Surah Al-Mulk would be enhanced through daily programmes such as Jom Mengaji Sebelum Tidur (Let’s Recite Quran Verses Before Bed) at 10 pm and ‘Majlis Ayah’ where fathers from all walks of life are invited to share their experience in raising their families which would be streamed daily on the Facebook pages of Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque, Sinar Harian and Quran Hour throughout the Ramadan month.

Besides that, a World Quran Convention will be held on August 10 followed by Malaysia #QuranHour on August 30.

World #QuranHour which is under the auspices of the Islamic Development Department Malaysia (JAKIM) is hosted by WUIF in collaboration with its synergy partners namely Bernama, Astro, TV AlHijrah, Sinar Harian, Karangkraf Media Group, Nu Ideaktiv, Zayan FM, British Muslim TV, Islamic Tourism Centre, Malaysian Council of Public Library Directors, International Islamic University Malaysia and Rumah Ngaji.
