KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) today issued a yellow level weather alert with heavy rain, expected to take place in the northern states from Sept 18 to 19 (Friday to Saturday).
In a statement, MetMalaysia director-general Jailan Simon said the states involved are Perlis, Kedah, Penang and several areas in Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang, Selama, Hulu Perak and Kuala Kangsar).
“Strong winds of between 40 and 50 kilometres per hour with waves up to 3.5 metres high are also expected in the states’ waters during the same period.
“The weather can cause seawater to overflow into coastal areas and estuaries in the affected areas,” the statement added. — Bernama
