THE Taiwan Excellence E-sports Cup 2019 qualifying round which was held in Penang, received a huge response from gaming enthusiasts here with a total of 100 participants from 20 teams who slugged it out to gain a place in the grand finals to be held in October.

Held in collaboration with the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and Taiwan’s Bureau of Foreign Trade (MOEA), the 8th on-ground qualifier held here was supported by brand and equipment sponsor, MSI.

The tournament officially kicked off on April 30 with an endorsement from MDEC (Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation) that will culminate in the grand finale to be held at Berjaya Times Square from October 11 to 13. The champion will take home RM10,000 and the winning team for the CS: GO category will further receive a golden ticket to Taiwan to compete with teams from Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines and India for a US$2,000 grand prize.

The tournament is sponsored by major brands including MSI, Acer Predator and Asus ROG. MSI’s marketing manager Gina Cheng said the qualifying round was not only a platform for gamers to experience MSI’s latest products, but it also served as an opportunity to encourage different and unique experiences with the gaming community in Malaysia from a brand standpoint.

Beyond the fierce rivalries between participating teams, fun activities such as “mini DotA 2 match” and a lucky draw were also held to engage e-sports fans in Penang who attended the event.

Another qualifying round was held with Acer Predator on Aug 17 at Cove E-Sports Hub, while the final qualifying round sponsored by Asus ROG is set to be held at Battle Arena on Sept 7, where the Taiwan Excellence E-Sports Cup qualifier tournament series will come to an end.
